The Advantages of Picture Window

Picture windows differ from window styles like double hung windows in that they do not have sashes: the glass is set directly into the frame. But there are other advantages.

The Greatest View

Picture windows allow for larger glass areas than other window styles, thanks to their lack of sashes. More glass means a greater viewing area, which makes picture windows ideal for rooms that have panoramic views, be it a city skyline, a mountain range or a waterfront.

What’s even better is that custom picture windows allow a wider uninterrupted viewing area, and, thanks to our Fibrex® material frames, you won’t have to worry about structural integrity and long-term performance. You can choose to have it mulled with a casement window to allow for ventilation.

The Most Energy-Efficient Window Style

We’re not exaggerating when we say that picture windows have the best energy performance. Air leaking through gaps in the windows is one of the main causes of thermal transfer, which results in heat loss during the cold seasons and heat gain during hot seasons. The heating and cooling systems then increase their output to make up for the temperature difference, resulting in higher energy consumption. Since picture windows do not have any such gaps, they are airtight by design.

They Provide Natural Lighting

Another benefit of large glass areas is they can allow for a lot more natural light into your home. The practice of using natural light as the primary means of indoor illumination is known as daylighting, which has many benefits. In addition to creating a cheerful indoor space, natural lighting also has health benefits. Regular exposure to daytime-nighttime cycles can help regulate your natural circadian rhythm, which promotes regular sleep hours and reduces stress. If you are concerned about the effects of direct sunlight, our High Performance™ Low-E4® glass features coatings that help block ultraviolet (UV) rays and solar heat.
