Common Door Problems in Winter

Every part of your home is put to the test during winter, and your doors are no exception. Although most are designed to withstand the elements, it’s vital that you’re aware of the common problems that may manifest during the colder season.

Loose Screws

Changes in humidity and temperature may cause the screws that hold up the door to come loose. This may not seem like a pressing matter at first, but it may cause the entire door to sag within the frame. On top of that, a loose-fitting door will rub against the frame of the door or just stick while opening and closing.

Simply tightening the screws will fix this problem. However, if the screws are stripped, it may be necessary to drill new pilot holes.

Worn Weatherstripping

The door’s weatherstripping blocks drafts from getting into your home, but it can get worn out over time and even more so during the winter season. You can tell if the door’s weatherstripping is worn out if you feel a noticeable draft coming from the door.

The solution to this problem is installing new weatherstripping. If your door is old and worn out though, it may be more beneficial to just install a new door. At Renewal by Andersen® of Wyoming, we have a range of doors, ranging from interior doors to sliding patio doors.

Fading Door

Finally, the harsh winter weather conditions will cause the door to fade faster and ruin its once pristine appearance. For wooden doors, this is preventable as you can simply treat it to give it extra protection against moisture.

At Renewal by Andersen of Wyoming, our doors and replacement windows are made from a durable composite material that’s strong and resilient against the harsh conditions of winter. Call us today at (307) 472-2199 to learn more about our window and door services. We install replacement windows throughout Laramie and Cheyenne, WY.
