4 Features and Benefits of Fibrex® Material

Today’s window frames need to be tough and energy-efficient. Renewal by Andersen® understands the importance of such features, which is why our replacement windows all have Fibrex® material frames. Let us share its features and benefits with you.

Development

Our parent company Andersen Corporation began testing for alternatives to better alternatives to wood, vinyl, and aluminum in as early as 1958. Aluminum was rejected early on because of its inherent conductivity. Wood is almost ideal, except that it’s not entirely sustainable, and it’s vulnerable to the effects of moisture and temperature changes. Vinyl, on the other hand, is low-maintenance but doesn’t have enough structural integrity.

Research continued well into the following decades until Andersen patented Fibrex in 1991. Now it is used as the primary material for Renewal by Andersen replacement window frames.

Features and Benefits

Fibrex material is a composite made from wood fibers and polymer, combining the best qualities of wood and vinyl. It excels in the following areas:

  1. Strength – The wood fiber and polymer combination makes Fibrex one of the strongest window frame materials, letting us manufacture narrower frames and bigger glass areas without compromising integrity. With Fibrex material, you can have more glass on typically thick-framed windows like double hung windows.

  2. Insulation – Fibrex material is on par with wood windows for its thermal insulation benefits. Combined with our High-Performance™ Low-E4® glass options, our replacement windows help you save money by keeping your home warm in the winter and cool in the summer, reducing your energy consumption.

  3. Low-Maintenance – Just like vinyl, Fibrex material frames will never require scraping or repainting. And unlike traditional wood windows, it won’t rot, decay, or mold.

  4. Beauty – Fibrex material can be molded into almost any texture, from typical casement window to custom window shapes with wood grain textures. This lets us offer different indoor and outdoor finishes on the same window to better match your home design.
